Badminton Updatesfor 13th September

The day witnessed the round robin finals of the girls’ badminton category. RAIT put on a good show with two victories to receive gold. BITS A-team defeated BITS B-team to win silver (both were in the finals, thanks to their brilliant performance in the previous day)

In the boys’ individual category, Vinay D (of BITS Pilani) defeated IPS in the quarter finals and proceeded to a heated semi finals match versus GCET. It was a close match that finally went to GCET. Likewise, Varun M defeated SRM and moved forward to GCET where he too was beaten.
The Badminton teams have really put on a good show. Both BITS teams were in the final three in both the boys and girls categories.

Sunday’s matches will decide the final outcomes of both the individual as well as the boys’ team category.

Badminton updates

After carroms, we have moved down to the badminton courts. It is really really hot here at the indoor badminton courts. The girls match between BITS A vs RAIT has just started. Earlier in the day, RAIT defeated the BITS B team.

Unlike the basketball matches where we have a lot of campany around us, we are feeling a bit lonely here. Soumya, my man here just gets some info - there have been no team matches in boys badminton today. The quarters and semis are apparently scheduled to tomorrow.

The "Baddie" Boys

The BITS Men’s badminton team have performed well in recent years and team captain Amit Deshpande thinks the team has a good chance of bettering their third place finish last year. A large number of students turned up for trials but only two vacancies meant only the best made the cut. There are two teams- an A team and a B team, classified on the level of play, each comprising five players. The new recruits have shown promise so far and are learning the nuances of the game from their seniors. The team has two practice sessions daily of two hours each. The focus in recent weeks has been mainly on match play and fitness. After their gold medal winning performance last year at MNNIT, there are a lot of expectations from this team and Amit assures us that they won’t dissapoint. Amit hopes BITSians will keep up the support they have shown in recent years and leave no stone unturned in bringing home the trophy.
